I've heard it can be hard to express I've had 4boys and never been able to keep breast feeding longer than a week as its always hurt really bad so they would go on formula milk this time I am thinking of expressing if I suffer the same with breast feeding like before any advice on expressing and how easy or hard it is would be great was thinking of trying a manual pump as I don't want to waste money on an electric one if I don't get on with it advice would be great

I think different pumps suit different people. The manual pump I got was from a bfing support group for £5. It was an avent isis and for me it was rubbish but I've seen mums on here rave about it. If you are thinking of bfing or exclusively pumping, I'd really recommend going along to your local bfing support group before Lo arrives. They should be able to talk to you about why you experienced problems before, and how they may be able to help if it happens again. If you're really lucky one of the mums may have a pump she can lend you or sell cheaply.

If you do end up exclusively pumping, or a combination of expressing and ff, I'd recommend an electric pump, I got mine second hand. It was an ameda lactaline and I'd really recommend it.

Have a look at MN breast pump reviews and this on pumping. Don't forget too that you may be able to express by hand. A mw or BFC should be able to show you how.

Congratulations too Thanks
