DS doesn't feed for very long :S

Hi everyone. My DS is 15 weeks old and we've had sort of an established pattern for a good few weeks where he would feed for around 15-30 minutes every 2-3 hours in the daytime. The past couple of weeks he's been going through the stage where he wants to stare at everyone and everything (very patience testing haha). Anyway because of this he's not latching on very long and once he's fed for around 5 minutes he cries if I try to put him on the breast again. Does this mean he's full? I know I probably sound stupid but I worry easily and DP is always shouting at me haha. He has plenty of wet nappies and is always content so I know he's fine. Plus he was weighed last week and he was 15 lbs 10 so I know he's gaining weight well as his birth weight was 7 lbs 15. Anyway I just wanted to reassure myself that this is normal and he'll get through this stage. I know he'll need to drop daytime feeds I just didn't think it would start this early!

Hi, my DD only every fed for 5-10 minutes at a time. I think, if his weight gain continues to be good and he's happy and alert, then he is very probably fine.

DS2 is a really fast feeder as well - never feeds for more than 5-10 minutes either. Sounds like he's doing fine!

I wish they could tell us that they are randomly going to change their routine then I wouldn't have to worry so much haha

Dd did this. But still went 3 hours between feeds. I worried about it for months (she was younger). Looking back seems daft, she was fine...

I was told today that a efficient feeder can empty a breast in 3 minutes. He may also be at the distractable stage which I've found very hard , but just feed him till he has had enough then try again if your worried its not enough.

The distractable is so stressful! It's hard to mumsnet and feed at the same time cos as soon as he spots my phone his eyes are off in that direction lol.

Thanks for the reassurance guys Smile
