White nipples

My little one is just about 4 weeks and he is putting on weight so he must be getting enough milk.

However the last few days I think he either wants more milk (which I am not sure I am produclng enough for what he wants from both breasts) and a few times when he goes on it does hurt and when I go to take him off my nipple is very white.

Any ideas on what I can do?

Was going to start indrocing a bottle for expressed milk next week.

Thought he might be just attached more for comfort ?

Would it be safe to just use a dummie at night? The midwife did say she found a tooth bud as well.

Thanks in advance for you advice.

Ouch, i think i had what you've got- blanched nipple. For me i think dd was a very strong sucker and fed very quickly and efficiently, normally about 10 minutes. I did find it was a slight positioning issue which slightly altered the latch and i think made the blanching worse. She also had quite a shallow latch so i worked on trying to get a deeper latch
I looked it up on google, and found some good advice on kellymom, including putting on a hot compress - such as a warm wheat cushion - after feeds.

Does it sound like this.

Hi Kimmy, I had similar issues with nipple blanching and man did it burn about half an hour later! In my case it seemed that DD's latch went to pot at about 3 weeks, so maybe worth you getting someone to check that? Good MW or bf consultant should be able to help. If you want to keep bf, prob worth getting them to check anyway/ chat to them just to make sure everything's OK?
Good luck
