Introducing a bottle at nearly a year - bad idea?

DS is off to nursery soon 2 days a week when I return to work.

He's on solids now, lots of varied food, but still breast feeding a couple of times a day and at night. I've tried (not very hard admittedly) to wean him off day time feeds in anticipation of returning to work, but he loves it, I like it, it works for us atm.

I can't express (had a freezer full of milk with DC1 and a bottle refuser, but can't get a drop out this time for love nor money)

Do I introduce formula at this stage and a bottle? Or cows milk and a bottle (aware he won't quite be a year).
Or straight to sippy cup (but then he won't get the comfort sucking gives him)

Any advice please? Thanks

And if I do go with bottles and formula, do I need to steralise?

How old is he?

I would def. avoid the bottle and go straight to the sippy cup - no real need fora bottle and you'll be having to wean him off that before too long.

If he's very close to 12m, then I'd go straight for cow's milk.

Personally I would go for cows milk and a bottle. You will presumably still give him breasting morning and evening so I wouldn't think he needs the formula as long as his diet is good.

Definitely don't need to sterilise!

Start giving him a bottle now and then so he's used to it.

Haha. Breasting should read breast milk.

I went back to work 2 days a week when DS was nearly a yr. He was still bf a couple of times during the day (and night grr).

The days I worked he just had food, plus water in a sippy cup. He bf first thing in the morning and seemed happy to wait for milk until I picked him up.

I'm back at work full time with a very breast fed 9 month old. He has lots of food and water from a sippy cup at nursery during the day - not the slightest interest in expressed milk from anything, but especially not a bottle. Feeds loads all through the night when I'm home and it's fine Smile

I wouldn't introduce a bottle as its advised to stop using them by the age of 1. if you are still going to give some breastfeeds then I would give cows milk in a cup.

Thanks so much for your replies.

He'll be 3 weeks off his 1st birthday when he starts nursery.

I think I'll go with the sippy cup and cows milk, thanks so much for your advice.
