Thrush and Expressing Milk

I'm breastfeeding my daughter and she has thrush, but the doctor suggested not treating her as she doesn't seemed to be bothered by it and is feeding fine. It was also going away and coming back, but there is only a small amount in her mouth. Last night and this morning though when I was breastfeeding her there was really bad nipple pain, so I think she must have given it to me. My question is about expressing milk, is it safe to freeze and use at a later date, or should I express and give it to her or express and dump it? I'm going to be away from my baby for the day, which is why I need to express. Thanks for your help.

Don't know on that one sorry, hopefully someone will be along soon Smile

Went to the doctor and she gave me a prescription for Miconazole for me and the baby. I don't know if this makes a difference or not. Hope someone can help.

I would pump and dump as the milk could be contaminated, and pump and freeze when the thrush has gone.

Is your daughter being treated too?

I was advised it can live in the milk even if frozen. Apparently might be possible to kill by heating but not sure I would risk getting thrush back. So I would just use now while both infected as you would if bf.

You can use it while you are both still infected, but not after or you will re-infect.

Thanks everyone, will pump and then give it to her tomorrow.

no, you do need to treat both her and you or it will keep passing between you both.
and yes, pump and dump the infected milk, but once it's cleared up you can pump and freeze.
