8 week old forgotten how to latch?

So just as I thought I'd got the hang of this bf malarkey... Was really confident and enjoying it but seems to have gone downhill a bit. LO is not gaping as wide and latch has become really poor. Nipple coming out lipstick shaped again. I am struggling to correct - have tried repositioning. Since he is so smart now tickling nose does not seem to work as well - it's like he can't be bothered to open wide - or does but then snaps mouth shut as soon as I flip nipple towards him so does not get a big enough mouthful. Am really frustrated - has anyone else dealt with this or does anyone have any tips?

Hi Meringue sorry about your problems. It's not exactly the same, but my DD2 also forgot how to latch on in her second week. She basically forgot how to breastfeed and the wvs suggested it was nipple confusion due to a dummy. Have you been using a dummy or just introduced a bottle? I expressed and gave DD2 my ebm in a bottle until she figured out her latch again (about ten days later) but since your baby's a bit older, this might not be the same situation.

Has it been going on long? Is he still getting the milk out? Babies are clever things - I would expect him to correct it himself, but sometimes they go through funny little phases.

Thanks Angie! I haven't given him a dummy or a bottle so can't be nipple confusion tho I have noticed him sucking on his bib (when I haven't spotted him) and wondered if that might have something to do with it?? I hope he does correct it. He is still getting milk out tho not as efficiently, and it's not completely comfortable for me,
