Wind, vomiting & squelching sound when feeding 4 week old

Hi, am looking for advice on what I can do to check/improve my latch. DD is feeding regularly and gaining weight etc but has problems with wind/vomiting and periods where she cries and pulls off the breast screaming and arching her back. The vomiting is worse overnight and I wondered if it was because I am lazier with my latch due to tiredness and feeding in dark. Whe she was first born she had a tendency to slide off the nipple but this had improved. However I have been noticing a squelching noise when feeding (I wouldn't describe it as a clicking, as I have heard of this before). I really would welcome any advice, thanks. I should mention she had a mild posterior tongue tie but it was cut while still in hospital.

Hi, I can't offer much in the way of advice regarding BF'ing and latch as I FF from 10 days old. However, screaming during feeds and back arching can sometimes indicate reflux. although I also read that a baby under 3 months will arch back when distressed which can be caused by wind/over tiredness etc etc but don't know how true that is.If you can't get any good advice on here (which you probably will), then speak to your HV or GP.

You may get told that if baby is gaining weight it can't be reflux, but if reflux is silent reflux (where acid only comes a short way up the oesophagus and burns), then baby can often feed more as the feeding/sucking soothes the burn, hence the weight gain.

Do you have access to a local breastfeeding support group? If the crying is due to bad latch/wind then they may be able to help with that.

Hope you get to the bottom of the cause. x

With the squelching, when my dd is faffing around, often a load of milk drips out and makes my boob all wet. When she latches on, this can sound a bit squelchy and the latch is rubbish. I take her off, mop her and my boob down and latch her back on. Is this what's happening with you?
