I'm breastfeeding my 3 month old but my 2 year old has conjunctivitis I think... Would it help?

Yes - try it

Ohhh that reminds me of a thread on here ages ago where someone was moaning that her DH wouldn't let her squirt BM in his eye. Shock

iloveholidays · 18/02/2013 21:11

:)

I've been using cooled boiled water and it had got a lot better but noticed some more gunk in her eye before she went to bed so doesn't look like its completely gone... Will try in the morning!

Thanks

Yes, it does help. Mine were prone to blocked tear ducts when they were younger (DD2 still gets them every time she gets a cold) which breastmilk doesn't help with, but massage does.

Best tip I ever heard on here was that you can also use it to clean contact lenses Grin

Ooh do you have any links for massage EauRouge, I think my daughter has this problem.

EauRouge · 18/02/2013 21:23

I don't have a link, it was something my DM showed me. It's very simple, you just gently press and massage near the eye where the tear duct is. If you try it on yourself first you'll be able to find the spot. It's just near the corner of the eye, just above the bony part of the nose- there's a little dip there. If you rub yours then you'll feel your nose running a bit- gross, but you'll know it's working Grin

It's very effective, it works really quickly on DD2.

Yes it does help!

It worked immediately with our newborn - literally instantly and had been using cool boiled water for ages without any luck.

Brilliant, thanks!

I have always used BM for treating conjunctivitis on my children and it has never let me down. I had a bout of it myself and it worked for me too Smile.

My 5 week old lb had a gammy eye which looked like conjunctivitis, the community health visitor advised to wipe his eye with both cooled boiled water and breast milk (separately) and Its pretty much cleared up now. As your breast milk is made especially for your baby, it's got all the goodness needed to help fight the infection. Give it a go, it certainly won't do any harm.

I tried this when I was still bf/expressing from boob and from syringe - didn't work! Only fusicidic drops (second course) worked!

That and sweeping eye clean every hour with cooled boiled water and fresh cotton balls.

But give it a go before getting eye drops, they are a right pain to try and drop in to a baby!
