Breastfeeding and contraception.

Dc2 is due soon. I plan to breastfeed again and wondered what my options for contraception are whilst doing so. Last time I took cerrazette but was terrible at forgetting to remember to take them. We wanted a close age gap so gave up trying to take them when dd was arpund 10 months and then periods returned around 14 months while I was still feeding. This time we really don't want to risk it.

Are there any other options on contraceptives that are safw while bf?

My friend who has been breastfeeding for many years really like the coil.

I've found abstinence to be a wonderful contraceptive ;)

The implant is good.

Mirena (IME GP will push this at you even if you don't want it, so I'm sure they'll bring it up... Grin ).

Condoms (although there's a reliability issue).

Pointy stick.

Well last time my GP told me I didn't need any contraceptive if I was breastfeeding! After my talk with the mw a few weeks previously I had to pretty much beg for a perscription. I have since changed surgerys.

I like the idea of the implant but wasn't sure it was suitable whilst bf.

Gp prescribed micronor after ds which I am suppose to be taking but keep forgetting! I think it's best to go for the pill as if there are any issues with bf you can just stop taking the pill whereas with the longer term contraceptive's you can't just stop if that makes any sense.

Yes implant is fine when bf, also can be removed easily enough if there are any issues.

I took Cerazette when I was bf DS a few years ago.

Am now bf DD and with 2 youngsters I really didn't think I'd remember to take a pill daily!

Implant has been great. Got it in Nov and so far so good. I was told by dr that it's the same hormones as the mini-pill (which Cerazette is), so is fine for bf.

I have a copper coil and think it's the bee's knees.
