Quick question-had my first night out since dd (9wks) was born, had a bottle of wine and stopped drinking at 1am, expressing as boobs are so engorged but really reluctant to throw it away. Question is-will it be safe to freeze and give dd at a later date or will there still be too large an alcohol content in there?

I'm the worlds most lax for feeding after a drink but I wouldn't freeze this. If baby was hungry I'd feed her but not freeze (double standards).

You need to allow 2 hours per unit I think from Shen you start drinking. So even if you had three units in the two hours you would need to wait at least 6 hours before milk was alcohol free.

Shen?? When.

This Aussie website has a table showing how long it takes for alcohol to leave your system. It shows for different weights and different amounts consumed www.breastfeeding.asn.au/system/files/ABA_Alchohol_BF%20for%20website.pdf

Thanks, I'll bin it then, not even sure it was worth it-my 'night off' consisted of 3 dirty nappy changes and 2 hand pumping sessions, I've had less sleep than normal and a headache to go with it! I'll stick to the diet cokes in future Grin

Very interesting read. I had no idea that alcohol could reduce milk flow.
