breast pump favourite type

I have a medela mini electric plus but the motor seems quite weak. I have tried various breast shield sizes but the nipple does not move ...tmi I know. I need to express as I am doing a course on Saturday ..what type of pump would you recommend , was looking at the medela swing but it is quite expensive, want to be sure it is good before I invest again.. Also how much would you express per feed? Midwife told me 120 MLS per bottle but I don't think I can express that volume...tia..

I had a cheap-ish manual one which was awful, took ages to get anything and was very fiddly. Eventually I decided to get a "proper" one and went for the Medela Swing as it was the Which best buy. I LOVE it, it's very comfortable and I can easily get over 150ml in ten minutes. It was expensive but worth it for me. I got mine form Amazon but there are offers on some sites if you google - eg it's £95 here: www.nctshop.co.uk/prodinfo.asp?number=2005

Only downside is storage, as I had already bought bottles and kit for another brand which isn't compatible. I'm now also having to either buy Medela's disposable milk storage bags or sterilise two sets of kit - the medela bottle and storage pots - and then transfer the milk.

I had an avent hand pump which was OK but once I got the hang of hand expressing I never looked back- there's no washing up for a start Grin and you can do it anywhere. Once you've got the knack it's very effective and certainly worth a go. I think it took me half an hour or so in the bath to figure it out.

There's a video that shows you how to do it . It's also useful if you're away from your baby and you get a bit engorged.

If your nipple isn't moving with the suction, have you got the membrane on the bottom on right? It's the little white flappy bit that is on the end of the yellow part. I had the mini electric last time and found it fab, have the swing this time and doesn't seem to be as effective for me!

I used the medela swing too. Much better than Tommee tippee manual and boots manual. Well worth it if you're going to use it regularly.
