Any tips of relieving pain of engorged breast when stopping BFing? Also, how long does it last?

I'm sure I didn't have this issue last time. I can't sleep properly because its so uncomfortable :(

I know it sounds very odd but a dark green cabbage leaf, ideally Savoy, chilled and put in bra!! There is something in it that relieves the engorged feeling. They have a natural fit too ;-) it will ease fairly fast, a good thing is to also bathe them in luke warm water. Will allow the milk to release without stimulating more. A shower and allowing the milk to flow too. Good luck and it will end soon x

Does the cabbage leaf thing really work? I'll definitely give that a try then.
I think I've been making it worse by hand expressing to relieve the pain as it just keeps coming back!

Yes it very strangely works! Hand expressing will unfortunately stimulate more milk so better to let it flow on it's own. Lean over the bathroom basin with tepid water and it should release some milk into the water, also gives a bit of comfort as weight is taken by water. Very non-glamorous but you'll feel better after

My friend recently had this, a week into dropping feeds she ended up so uncomfortable she went to see the dr. He advised her to have a bath, and to express a little, just enough to ease the pressure. She wasn't convinced that it wouldn't stimulate moreproduction, but tried it. Next morning, she woke up dry and hasn't had a drop since. So maybe give that a go?

I've just had a soak (no expressing though) and put on a tight bra (old sports bra from my much thinner days so it really is tight) and it feels much better now - still sore but bearable.

If I'm still sore tomorrow I'm heading out for cabbage!
