DS 1 7 mo still feeding through night

My ds2 is 7 mo and has been happy eating for 6 weeks now he is eating some food at breakfast, lunch and dinner he also has milk from me in between feeds ( not as much but generally before and after sleep). He still wakes at least twice a night for a he is in bed for 7pm then up for BF between 10-12 and 2-4 up at about 6:30am, it feels like he is waking out of habit and not hunger. He feeds to sleep or needs to be held which is fine for 20mins but for 1- 1. 1/2 hours at 3am is not on. Any thoughts? He is also constantly teething he has 7 teeth currently broken, so I do give anbesol/teething gel or sometimes calpol depending. Is this normal or is it time for cc, he is eating solids well a mixture of finger food and puree. Sorry fir long post and not sure if its bf related or weaning hence in both! Oh my, do you live in my house??! Did I post this in my sleep?! I am in exactly the same place. Eats well in the day, an early morning bf then again mid morn and afternoon then bedtime. Dh gives a bottle at 10 so i can get to bed early Yet STILL waking about 3.30 each night. Sometimes again at 5ish. He genuinely seems hungry at 3.30, can't think what else to fill him up with we already do an extra porridge before bed.

Sorry to hijack- but when I saw this I just so knew where you are at! My sympathies!

It's not habit or hunger necessarily- it is completely normal for a 7 mo to wake up twice a night- sorry! What makes you think he should be sleeping through?

Ok Eaurouge, you have the facts - I guess it's just the way some are and time will change things! BUT REALLY - no magic cures, spells to be said over his cot, magic recipes?!!

Yes, absolutely normal I'm afraid. The only suggestion I have which is least resistance is to treat the wake-up as a low key normal wake up time so change/feed etc in his room or another room but keep it quiet, dimly lit, him still in sleeping bag, etc Then offer a short time of looking at one or two not-too-stimulating toys before putting down, with the idea that he will be able to get back to sleep as it will be like going to sleep at any other time. If successful you can then cut back the "play" time to a few mins until hopefully the wake-up stops.

There are more active ways to try to discourage night-waking but I wouldn't recommend until at least 1year, if not older, unless you are utterly desperate.

Thank you for all the responses . Monkey sorry but it's nice to know someone else is out there as well! Eau my DS1 was only having one feed a night by this time, but they are already very different. I generally like a plan of action so I will have to look at this time as something to ride out.

That's just it Jezza, my first slept at 3 weeks - I had no idea how good I had it! Ride it out is exactly it, it's a bit wild in this house!

7 teeth at 7 months!! At least you got that out of the way :). 6 mo, lots of teething and still no tooth in sight here.

If my DD wakes up in the night (and I mean eyes open, babbling etc. not just needing a resettle), I never turned the lights on, talked to her or fed her necessarily. I just snuggled that's it. She soon got ir that it was nighttime and darkness/quiet means sleeping.

She just needs to figure out the sleeping for 8 hours in a row business!
