Extended BF (DS aged 3) - natural end-point?

Just wondering about other people's experiences of breast-feeding for extended periods - did this come to a natural end, or did you actively stop?

I'm still feeding my son (aged 3) last thing at night and first thing in the morning. This works for us both, but is not something I want to do forever! His older sister had gradually lost interest by this point, but he shows no signs of doing so yet.

My general experience has been that children do things when they are ready, so I have been hoping that his interest in breast-feeding would begin to wane. Do you think this is likely? If not, any advice on gently scaling back, and/or preparing the ground for stopping?
