SMA Staydown Formula for Reflux

I was advised to use the formula today by GP. On the tin it is very clear that it has not to be made up it the normal (NHS approved) way. It states, repeatedly and in capitals, that it must be made from chilled, sterilised water not water above 70 degrees.

I called GP back to check whether I should follow the NHS guidelines or the instructions on the tin. I got a different GP and he said to go ahead and make it with the chilled, sterilised water as indicated on the tin.

I know how dangerous formula is when made incorrectly so I'm concerned. Should I call someone else? Who? Help!

could you call the SMA helpline and see what they say

p.s. Cow and Gate and Aptamil do a reflux formula too

Thank you. I called them. This formula contains precooked corn starch which makes it unsuitable for water at 70 degrees. It is inherently more risky so should only be used if really needed.

I believe the advantage with the SMA Staydown is that it thickens in the stomach rather than in the bottle. It means you can use standard teats.

they (C&G and Aptamil) also have a new milk called Reflux milk (rather than the Comfort milk) so it may be similar to the SMA milk.

Both the new reflux milks by Aptamil and C&G thicken in the bottle.

The milk is fab though, my ds was so much better on it and hardly sick, my friend is using the aptamil one but is struggling to get hold of it because boots were out if stock and only they sell it.

I got the SMA in Tesco. I hope to God it works.
