I think my ds has weaned himself off the boob...I'm feeling very strange...bereft and sad. I wanted to go for longer. It was very unexpected as one day he was feeding and the next day not. I've done baby led weaning with him which so far has gone very well. Wondering if he will go back on? I keep checking but no sign yet (after 5 days). I think he is teething and so thought this might be the reason. My feeling though is that he has decided. Do babies do this? Is there a chance he will start again? Do you go through hormonal changes when you stop? Maybe this would explain my feelings? My milk supply has gone down already which feels strange too...
I feel all over the place and would appreciate some advice if anyone has any...

No answers to your questions but just replying with full of sympathy. I think I would feel terrible at this, I love bf and want to at least till my DS is 1. I have heard of this happening.

At this age it is a nursing strike rather than self weaning. You could try lots of skin to skin and just keep offering if you want to get him back to BF.

Yes sounds like nursing strike. If it were me I'd express for a bit and give it in a cup, or try sitting around with boobs out... I bet it won't last long if you do that.

my DD did the same at 54 weeks old... I was so sad as planned to BF until at least 2.....

She had her last ever feed the day I (unexpectedly and unplanned) got pg with number 2 .... she must have known before i did!!!!

(but in hindsight it was a good thing, having a(nother) HG pregnancy means im taking medication that means she couldnt have my milk anyway, and i was then in hospital with dehydration too, so it was a good thing that she didnt need me anymore)

so i was only 3 weeks away from being forced to stop, which i think would have been harder for us all

Thanks everyone for the advice. After finding out some info it was indeed a nursing strike, so I tried a couple of things from the advice given and my ds went back to four + feeds a day which I'm very happy about! I just can't believe how strange I felt. Anyways all is good now. Best wishes to all :)
