question re expressing - is it ok to do this...?

my DS is about 5.5 months old and ebf. I want to see if I can get him onto a bottle so that I can leave him with DP and have the odd half day away from him and make a feeble attempt at doing some exercise/getting my hair cut/reading the paper over a coffee etc. Have tried on and off when he was younger but haven't tried for a while so going to give it another go.

I have one of those electric medela pumps. Can I express throughout the day and just use the same bottle and top up what is already in there? And can I leave the bottle out on the side at room temperature while I do this? I think i read somewhere (probably on here) that you shouldn't add newly expressed milk to chilled milk, but can I add newly expressed to expressed earlier?

And how long can I keep it at room temp for before I have to chill it?

Thanks

You can express for one day pouring all the expressed milk into one bottle (so 3x express poured into one bottle eg) and you can keep it on the side for the day.
If you express the following day, the new milk needs to be in a new bottle. The previous days milk can then be stored in fridge/freezer if it wasn't used.
If baby had any from the bottle but didn't finish it, you cant save the rest after that day.
Hope that makes sense?
