Engorgement

How long is it normal to be engorged for?
My DD is nearly 8mo and at least once a day I become engorged. Not always both breasts but at least one.

Any ideas?

Really sorry I don't know but am interested as I was the same and wasn't until recently I realised that your boobs are supposed to soften up! I was engorged and sometimes fed ds just for some relief. I stopped breast feeding at 4 months ish and ds is 3 now.

Mine softened by about week 6. Are you feeding to a routine? If you're feeding on demand maybe they're just like that

mummysmellsofsick · 05/01/2013 19:03

What I mean is, on demand normally means they stay soft all the time as they tend to feed little & often

UsedToBeAPixie · 05/01/2013 19:06

Do you feed around the same time every day or is it still very much on demand? My DS is 5mo and these days it only happens if he sleeps much longer through the night (had increasingly larger boobs on New Years Eve!). I thought that your supply usually settles down with the demand.

Feed on demand. There's no putting DD on a routine!! Sometimes she feeds loads and often, sometimes just snacks.
I had heard you're not meant to be engorged after a certain time but 8mo I still am?!
There's never more than 4 hours between feeds either. She was sleeping through and I'd be leaking all over the place but this last month she is teething so up all night feeding but no improvement? I constantly seem to have wonky/rock hard boobs!!

Oh dear! Have you tried La Leche League or Kelly Mom? They might have some answers for you.
