Hi ladies

I've not posted much but I'm in need of desperate help. My DS is 16 months and still BF alot at night we are co sleeping for half the night! I want this to stop so he will stay in his bed!

The problem us he wants to feed all night long :-( it's not bothered much before but it is now and I'm getting to the point were I'm staring to hate BF.

I've tried alot of things to get him to accept formula / cows milk but he's having none of it. Won't even take a sip.

What can I do to sort this. I've spoken to my pead and she's not overly helpful not many are on this matter. They are all pro BFeeding.

I really need help as I want to stop BFeeding.

when I got to point where I couldn't sleep with DS attached most of the night, he co-slept with DH instead. We had time periods between feeds we would aim for.

I stopped bf'ing my DC2 recently at 15mo. He was still boob-crazy at nights, especially when teething.

We went cold turkey and DH did the co-sleeping for a few nights. He adapted pretty quickly. It helped that I had a medical condition that meant I had to stop and it also prevented me from getting up to help if he woke at nights.

He now does wake up still, but will take milk from a bottle, and doesn't need co-sleeping every night.

Well done for getting to 16 months, but if you have had enough, it's time to stop before you get resentful.

Thanks so much ladies but my issue is that what do I replace as breast milk? He won't drink anything else but water and juice? I feel so terrible even thinking of giving up but I need to now as I'm no longer enjoying it.

Climbing I wish my DH would do the co sleeping but he's a very loud snorer and heavy sleeper so this would be worse as I would be so scared something happened to him.

Poppy did your DC accept formula as a substitute? I know I need to get DH to help and he's willing to but as he's a hard worker he needs his rest so it can only be done on the weekend and I feel thus won't be enough time for him to adjust.? How long did it take for his to accept the change?

At 16 months I don't think you should need to start on formula. Does your LO like yogurts and cheese, could you give lots of those instead? Or how about milky porridge or weetabix?

Yup, as Gintonic says, a weaned toddler doesn't need formula, or even cow's milk. My DS1 never really went for any sort of milk except breastmilk, and when he dropped feeds just replaced them with more solids/water. He eats lots of yoghurt and cheese and has milk on cereal, and generally has a balanced diet, so he's getting the relevant nutrients.
