5 week old biting during a feed - why?

My 5 week old has started clamping her jaw closed during a feed. All's well generally in regards to latch and weight gain.
I just wondered why she was doing it and if this is normal?
Even without teeth it makes me jump a mile when she does it.
does anyone know why? Am I doing something wrong?

Not sure why she would do this but then I'm not a trained BFC Xmas Smile.

There is sone info on kellymom on biting or I'd give the National Bfing Helpline a call.

It could be due to a fast letdown? I've heard that babies can clamp down to try and slow the flow. Could that be the case?

Kellymom is great. I did look there first but the articles concerned older babies with teeth. Thought it was a bit weird a 5wk old doing it.

Fast letdown? I hadn't thought of that. I might give the bf support a ring then. Thanks!

Sounds like a good idea, let us know what they say Xmas Smile

My wee one (9 weeks) will clamp down and tug on the boob when the letdown is very fast.
He will also do in frustration if the letdown doesn't happen fast enough (ie. the minute he latches on) and he's really hungry.

He's a contrary wee boy Xmas Grin
