Stopping breastfeeding question

DeeBeee · 15/12/2012 11:47

I am in the process of gradually stopping to breastfeed DS. After a couple of weeks of a single feed a day, 4 days ago I stopped altogether. I can feel there is some milk in my breasts and I am thinking of feeding DS for a last time. Is it possible that this milk would have gone off somehow these 4 days? Sorry if this is a stupid question as the milk is still in my body... I don't have access to a breastpump as I am visiting my parents abroad, and I haven't been able to hand express much although I can feel it's there, which is why I am thinking of giving DS this last feed. Or should I not do it but then what happens to the milk that is left in my breasts?

Nope, it doesn't go off :) It will be fine. Are you feeling engorged and uncomfortable?

If you feed again or express it will stimulate your breasts will make more milk. It will dry up if you just stop, although best to stop gradually (which you say you have done) to avoid engorgement and possible mastitis.

Thanks for the replies. No I don't feel uncomfortable even though I can feel there is milk there. So should I rather just leave it and not feed a last time then?

If you want to stop and you've left it 4 days already the hardest part is over and I wouldn't feed again (sad though that feels). If you DO want to continue feeding then you'd better do it quick.
