LO prefers right breast?

My 4 mo gets angry and annoyed on my left breast but feeds better from it at night , she seems to be getting more frustrated when feeding and feeds really fast like for 5 mins and then it's like there is nothing left? Am I running out? She is also starting to show interest in food ie grabbing at what I'm eating or drinking and willingly likes a little taste.

I used to cradle hold on right boob and then rugby ball hold on left boob, so that DS2 fed in roughly the same position, just further round my torso IYSWIM

I doubt you're running low on milk - she may just prefer one side over the other (my friend has this weird idea that maybe it's to do with which way they were lying in the womb!).

My LO doesn't like the right hand side, but my right nipple is a lot 'flatter', and it's hard to make it stand to attention - also, I find the right side hardest to pump from as well.

I used to do the same as Grim - start on the side he liked then rugby onto the other side.

Also, I used to use the right side for the first very sleepy feed in the morning, as that's when he would take the biggest feed of the day.

Update- she didn't sleep that great at all :/ as the previous night , she just doesn't seem settled and think she is doing a bit if cluster feeding ! Going to try the rugby hold on my left side see if that helps , she didn't have that many wet nappies yesterday either but not sure if its her teething aswell as she pulls off the boob making those clicky teething noises !

Have you tried laying down & feeding?

HipHopOpotomus · 11/12/2012 09:18

DD2 was a leftie!!! She would drink from the right but never first choice, never if she was upset, always after a good feed from the left. I guess the left boob was her 'go to' feed. Once she had had the left, and was soothed and relaxed she was fine on the right.

Yes I feed lying down at night and she seems fine, I think she is growing and needs more food :0 she's emptied my right and fussing on my left

no I would think this is the four month growth spurt where all goes to pot for a bit, feeding like crazy and sleep goes wonky at the same time. Try to ride it through, go with the flow, feed as often as she asks

This too shall pass

Thanks grim , we are having a bad time at the mo, but I feel bad moaning cause age is such a happy baby usually and she is being so patient trying to get her milk to come through .....

awww mate, it's such a slog isn't it

your supply will catch up really quickly, and I'll bet this will ease off in a few days

3plus2 · 13/12/2012 12:32

Still no improvement ? I don't know what to do ????
