Colic help?

Hi. I had an utter meltdown yesterday due to my 7 week old's bouts of crying. It's mainly in the evening which sounds like colic, although yesterday she did it at lunchtime which tipped me over the edge.
We've used infacol so far which hasn't had much effect. I'm about to try aptamil comfort. Has anyone had any luck with this or got any other advice?
The crying is mainly 10-1am tho often early evening, too.

No solution, but just sending support. We tried lots of things with DS1, but eventually it just stopped suddenly at 13 weeks.

I do remember 5-7 weeks being the hardest time. Many evenings driving round and round the block. The Hoover worked, and sometimes the washing machine.

Have you looked at the symptoms of reflux to see if its that?

I have and she does have some symptoms of reflux eg white tongue for example and coughing a lot. I'm confused about what to try first! I did order some infant gaviscon too.

Do you keep her upright after a feed?

We have found DD2 (4.5 weeks) likes to settle on her tummy when her refux is bad. But hers isnt too bad. We only let her sleep on her tummy when we are watching her though.

What about colief (you can also get it on prescription I think) and is apparently better than infacol, or try cranial oesteopathy.

We had this with our LO. It turned out to be silent reflux. Infacol, Colief and Dentinox did nothing to help. She is now on Ranitidine which has made an enormous difference. Speak to your HV and GP.

My ds (now 12 weeks) was really bad from birth to about 7 weeks, we tried:
infacol
gaviscon
colief
comfort aptamil
cranial osteopathy
using moby wrap
white noise
dr brown's bottles
After the introduction of comfort milk, colief, dr browns bottles and seeing the osteopath he changed overnight! Not sure which it was but I'm too scared to change anything right now. The comfort milk definitely sorted out his digestion/pooing routine.

Colief is apparently really good.

And also to say, as long as he's not hungry/unwell the white noise works like a treat getting him to sleep for naps and bedtime. I think sometimes babies get overtired and therefore are particularly fussy in the evenings when there is a build up of the stress hormone (cortisol??). Is your dd napping during the day enough?

I used Doc browns and colef it worked. Not sure which one though.

Thanks for all those thoughts! Currently trying colief, but actually we had no colic at all last night. At least she has some nights off!
Mcyawny- can you use colief with the comfort milk?

stargirl if my LO had silent reflux, would it not bother her during the day, too? She does have symptoms of reflux eg white tongue, coughing etc but I'm not sure it's bothering her.

We had normal feeds through the night until noon. No problems at all. From noon till about 9pm the feeds were a nightmare. It's so distressing to watch your baby screaming. She would be very rigid with her back arched. She wouldn't take more than 3oz then spend an hour crying. Things aren't perfect now but much better.

It may not be in your case. Just wanted to make you aware of our situation. We thought it was colic. First time parents!

The comfort milk says that it has 40% less lactose than normal formulas but doesn't contraindicate about combining it with any other form of anti colic meds so I use both together. It also says to be used under medical supervision - can't be that important otherwise you wouldn't be able to get it so easily! I did happen to mention it to a HV though who thought it was worth a try. The comfort milk alone didn't stop the colic, but combined with colief and dr brown's bottles, things improved. (Although it could've been the cranial osteopathy - who knows!) At the time I was so desperate that I tried everything at once so now will not know which made the most difference. I do know though that the colief definitely did because I ran out and thought I'd try without it and had a terrible day of unsettled crying.

We thought it might be reflux but he was fine without the gaviscon he'd been having so ours was definitely colic!

If colief does work you can get it on prescription if you've got a nice GP
because those little bottles don't last long and it's quite expensive. They say at 12 weeks or so that there is less need for it so we are going to begin reducing the dose and see how it goes.

Hi - I think it's a terrible time and sadly they all have to go through it (or rather we do!) - I found going onto soya milk helped as we were ebf - just wanted to send support and say I really don't think much you do for baby makes much difference - I think you need survival strategies lined up e.g. pack up of yummy drinks and snacks, someone to hold baby for just 10 mins, hot bath afterwards....It's a really hard time. X

I found that a routine worked best for our colicky boy - regular feeds (every 3 hours at 7 weeks), meant he wasn't 'snacking' so his little stomach wasn't constantly working. I noticed on the days where he didn't feed at regular intervals/fed on and off for hours, he cried a lot more for longer. On the days where I made sure to feed him every three hours on the dot, he'd normally cry just a wee bit.
