Getting a dc to not bottle refuse

Any advice anyone has would be gratefully received. Planning on bf ds2 when he's born but have noticed that most of the people who have, their baby's are bottle refusers.

I have a very good pump and I'm hoping to build up a supply so that the new baby eventually be fed by his my dh so I can have time off!

I know guidelines say to wait 6 weeks but again everyone who's waited this long, their dc refused the bottle, even with mum leaving the house. I have a lot of friends who breastfed. My sil reckons the times she introduced after 2 weeks she had success, the time she waited for the 6, bottle refuser. Has anyone else had experience of this?

Any ideas that worked for you would be great. TIA. :)

I'm breast feeding and introduced 1 bottle feed a day from two weeks old. I worked myself up so much regarding nipple confusion etc but I've had no issues at all. My friend however waited 2 months to introduce a bottle and her baby just kept refusing. Everyone has different experiences/opinions of course but I've had no problems... So far Smile

I bfed but introduced a bottle of ebm at 6 weeks ish. We never did it regularly but he never refused. Otoh a friend gave then regularly and hers still started refusing at about 4m. I think it's just the luck of the draw personally. I don't know if that's reassuring or not sorry Grin

I would use bottles of EBM from early on... but do be aware that even if you do this your baby may reject it furrher down the line and prefer breast.

however .... if the worst happens don't fret, there are plenty of other wsys of getying milk in to even tiny babies other than bottles :)

Hate to say it but there is no evidence that introducing a bottle early will lead to acceptance. You will also find many babies who took a bottle early on but rejected it later ...

We introduced a bottle at 5 weeks. DD was great with it. Fast forward to now (5 months) and she completely refuses. To the point of not having anything for 6 hours when I went out.

first baby we did bottles of ebm regularly from 4 weeks, the second we didn't get around to it till nearly 5 months. even with only a handful of attempts, he's taken to the bottle fine since I've been back at work.

i think it probably is just luck. :(

Thank you!

I had a sneaky feeling that it might be luck of the draw . I think I might try getting dh to introduce a bottle sometime after 2 weeks when he's not working away and cross my fingers and hope for the best. Sounds like it'll either work or it won't so I won't worry too much about how old he is.
