Hi I posted this in sleep but there doesn't seem to be much traffic so thought I'd try here as it is partly a BF issue.

My 6mo (next week!) has alwas been a quite good sleeper. He is EBF and for a few months would go down at 7 and wake around 3 for a feed and then wake for the day between 6 and 7. I know how lucky i am that he did this being BF!

Anyway recently he started waking earlier at around 1 and then again at 5 both times feeding. But then didn't want his feed 1st thing. This was fine, DH gets up with him, so I just stayed in bed until around 7.30.

But last night it all changed again! He woke at 2 had a feed and then woke at 5 as usual but wasn't hungry, he eventualy had a small feed and went back down around 6. I'm more than happy to feed him in the night when he's hungry, but would rather he kept sleeping if he isn't!

Has this happened to anyone - any ideas as to what we can do. I return to work in a month and would dearly love just one wake up! (again I know I'm lucky, DS has never comfort fed he only BFs when hungry) Also we have started solids as he is a bottle refuser. He has taken to them really well, thankfully, as he needs to have someting at cm's!!

Thanks

Are you offering the solids after food so that his tummy is nice and full from the BM? If he is waking at 5 its not really counted as a night wake up, sounds like he is waking the day. Try googling askdrsears early waking and kellymom reverse cycling as there may be an element of this going on too.

Hope you have a better night tonight.

Thanks so much for replying.

Yes I'm offering solids about an hour after BF so he should be full.

Most nights/mornings when he wakes at 5 he's still very sleepy and goes straight back down for another hour+ but guess what happened this morning! Up at 5.40 wide awake! So maybe you're right and he's changing his wake time.

I'll have a look at the websites you've suggested. We need to get up quite early when I'm back at work so it's not the end of the world!

Thanks again.
