BF - issues now DD has teeth

DD has just turned 11 months and has gone from 0 to 6 teeth in the past six weeks. She is still BF morning, evening, nights and weekend as I'm back at work during week days. She will take a bottle/sippy cup of expressed milk with significant reluctance.

DD wasn't able to latch when she was born and so we used shields until managing to drop them from about 4 months. Her latch has never been fabulous and I think she has a mild tounge tie.

Anyway, now she has teeth is is often really hurting. I don't think she's intending to bite me but her top teeth are pretty sharp and are scratching and I'm ending up with sore areas and tiny cuts. I'd like to keep going a while longer but the pain is putting me off.

Any advice?

Hi. Dd is 8 months and has 2 bottom teeth and top 2 just showing now. What i found was latch wasn't great for couple of weeks teeth were erupting, esp top 2. Very sharp and seemed to catch. However within a few days of them coming thru her latch seemed to adjust again back to normal

I agree with feekerry. I found with DS that just before teeth came through and for a few days after he seemed a bit chewy but it seemed as though as soon as he'd got used to the new teeth everything settled down again.

You have my sympathies with 6 teeth in 6 weeks, although DS got his first 2 at 18 weeks the next 4 came over a 6 week period when he was 6 months and it was very hard work!

He's now 13 months and just getting molars, I'm still bf and haven't noticed any real change with latch, maybe it's the front ones that cause more problems?

Thanks both. Hopefully this is just a stage, really not sure I can go on long with this degree of discomfort. She is sleeping a little better and not dribbling so much so hopefully at least there won't be any more soon!

I had similar issues when dd1 got her two top teeth through. They seemed to be rubbing and were breaking the skin. She also never had a great latch, she sucked onto her latch rather than opening her mouth.

I just persevered and it went away on its own. I think it took a couple of weeks.

I hand expressed a bit of milk and rubbed it into the sore bits and that seemed to help a bit.

Hope it resolves soon for you. I'm certainly not looking forward to dd2 getting her top teeth

She will adjust in a week or so - I had a couple of weeks of pain when DD's bottom teeth came through, and then again for the top ones. But it went away and I fed her till past a year.
