Bf, reflux and constipation - questions!

So my DS is now 9 weeks and is EBF. A few weeks ago he was diagnosed with reflux and put on infant gaviscon, which worked like a miracle. But unfortunately it is constipating him. we've reduced the amount of gaviscon to the bare minimum, but it's a balance between him screaming with reflux and screaming with straining.

Anyway, we were at the doctors today for his 8 week check and she said that because he's so big - above 91st centile - that she thinks I should be giving him water instead of some of his feeds as it won't matter if he drops a few centiles. Ad if that doesn't help to give him freshly squeezed orange juice. Now the orange juice I'm really not sure about, I have a digestive disease and really don't like the idea of putting anything in DS that isn't milk that could cause a problem for the future (I have no science behind this just a funny feeling). But the water thing, what do you think? Will it affect my supply? Currently I have a crazily hungry baby that can polish off 2 boobs and 100ml of expressed milk in an evening, surely he's not going to be satisfied with water?

Thoughts?

Was it your HV who said this? You should not be replacing any feeds for such a young baby, milk is what he needs to grow and thrive and as for offering orange juice to an ebf baby with reflux, the woman us obviously a loon.

Just ignore and if she mentions it again smile sweetly and say something like oh that's really interesting, could you tell me where I cAn read up on the research please? She won't be able to tell you cause no good research will tell you todo that!

My LO got very constipated on Gaviscon. But, I did find that just 1-2 oz of water really helped him.
I would give him an extra ounce after his morning feed and another one after his bedtime feed.

Never gave orange juice, but have heard that prune juice can work well. But you'd have to dilute it maybe 1 part juice, 10 parts water.

Julie - it was the baby specialist GP at our practice Confused

Horse - was your LO happy to take the water after a feed? I'd've worried about overfilling him if he's fed till he was full.
