Breastfeeding and craving mountains of junk food - help!

DD is 3 weeks old. She is enf and I am eating so much chocolate, ice cream, biscuits and general junk that I appear to be putting on weight faster than her :( Bananas just aren't cutting it. What do I do?

Stop eating the junk ...........you can't use the excuse that it is a craving as you are no longer pregnant ! you can however feel better knowing that breastfeeding requires on average an extra 500 calories a day ...so have a little treat for yourself but don't pig out otherwise there is only one consequence and i think you know what that will be ...................

My dd is also 3 weeks old and i am now just eating normally ( + a little bit extra) and losing weight surprisingly quicker than expected ...............

p.s banana dipped in highlights hot chocolate is quite nice and may stave off the sweet cravings ( for a while anyway !)

Happy Munching

I lived off cake for the first 3 months of breast feeding. DD clusterfed all day (and i mean all day from first thing in the morning till bed time) when she had growth spurts, plus i found bf quite painful due to a really heavy let down, so cake was all that kept me going.

My secret was to not worry about the eating but get a sling and take her out for walks in it everyday. As she is 91st centile so pretty heavy and this did a grand job of getting the weight off. At 8 months I am now slimmer then I was before i got pregnant and also much fitter. Annoyingly she's cutting back the milk feeds now and i am back at work behind a desk 3 days a week so have had to seriously reduce my cake intake to stop getting huge again....gutted :(

I ate and still do eat what I like but walk for miles every day. I am nearly three stone lighter than when I found out I was pregnant. (DS is now 7 months). I am going to have to keep a bit of an eye out though as he's dropped to only feeding morning and evening, so will have to be a bit more restrained. In those early days it was whatever got me through the day!
