Yup. Just like that. I posted last week about having mastitis. And I decided once I got over it I'd gradually stop bf. I was heartbroken but 6 days later no better been back to the drs n been given different (stronger) antibiotics and told under no circumstances to feed the girl. So that's it. No more bf. just really sad to think our last feed was this morning with me screaming in agony, dd screaming in shock and her being sick cos I hadn't noticed my nipple was gushing with blood and she'd swallowed god knows how much of it :(

Sending you hugs - bf is such an intense thing and really sad for it to finish like that for you. Hope you can start to move on and enjoy the many other joys your dd will bring you. Flowers

Sorry to hear that things haven't been going well. It's odd that you've been told to stop cold turkey, with mastitis you really need to keep the milk flowing. Have you been advised to express? Have you spoke to a breastfeeding counsellor about it?

Sorry to hear your having such a bad time
Remember formula feed is fine
Millions of babies thrive on it
You have done your absolute best, put it behind you
Are you going to introduce it gradually?

I'm a bit Hmm about no bf - is it because of the ABs? I've had mastitis many many times and feeding all the time was key. You can also have hot showers and hand express at the same time while running your fingers towards your nipple to get milk flowing.

Also cold compresses between feeds.

How old is baby?

Ive bf for almost 9 months and This is my third bout of mastitis in 9 weeks. I've been on antibiotics for a week now (and still feeding) but they've not done anything for it. I've been told to stop cos of the stronger AB I've been put on so the Dr told me just to express. I'm only a bit relieved cos the past 7 days every time I've gone to feed dd the pain has got worse and worse and worse. Can't even look at my pump cos used that this morning when I couldn't face feeding her and I had to be peeled off the ceiling Sad

I've ALOT of swelling on the underside. Ha to go back into maternity bras. Dr said if its not relieved in the tiniest bit by Friday (so 8 days since I first went in with it) I've to go to hospital and get it drained Sad

Are you feeling ok? Taking any pain killers? Is one boob ok - will you still be feeding off that?

You should actively manage the mastitis - keep the milk flowing because you don't want an abcess.

Crikey, that sounds horrific, hope you get well v soon Flowers

Aww I feel for u as currently I'm on antibiotics for mastitis and it is painful. However my LO is only 3 weeks so I really really want to carry in feeding .

You've done an amazing job to last 9 months!! It is a acne your last feed has ended that way but also think of all those successful feeds over the last 9 months . If I can do half as well as you I would be happy Smile

CandyPop · 28/11/2012 08:49

Shame not acne - stupid iPhone !
