5 weeks old, still struggling to latch on

Hi

Dd is 5 weeks old, ebf and it took her 31 days to regain her birth weight of 6lb 14oz, but she got there in the end.

She is however, still struggling to latch on when feeding. I have tried every possible position, been to see lactation consultant, had her checked for tongue tie twice and she is still struggling.

Its almost like she can't get the nipple at the roof of her mouth, she is like a woodpecker and also never opens up wide enough. Once she gets it (anything from 2-5 minutes) she feeds fine (for between 10-30 minutes)

Should I just accept that she may never just "get it" and latch on first time every time....my son did.....maybe she just never will?

I fed my son whilst out and about but I still wouldnt feel confident in her latch, say, if at a cafe etc...arms everwhere and crying :(

I dont want to be stuck in or only at relatives when I have to feed her. Im getting dead frustrated.

Any tips/hints that may help us?

Have you tried cranial osteopathy? My dd had it and since then her mouth and 'gape' has gotten bigger, therefore improving the latch

I would get checked again for TT. I had to see 6 people before getting it sorted. dS would head bob & couldn't open wide at all. Two classic symptoms apparently. Cranial osteopath also helped.

I found the flipple technique really helped get a deeper latch. It also improves once he got a bit bigger Smile

Definitely try and see someone else to get tongue tie checked again, as Seriously says. So many people have had tt's missed over and over again, there was a thread about it recently. Good luck.
