Just been out to the local (very very small) village shop to pick up milk for the baby. Normally they have Cow and Gate 'stage 2' milk which LO has been having since he was 3 months old. However, they only had 'follow-on' milk instead (they did have Aptamil stage 1 and 2, but it makes him very constipated!) So I bought the Cow and Gate follow-on milk, but I'm unsure how much to give him.

He is 7 months old, and has been having 4 bottles of 7oz's worth of stage 2 milk - do I just give him the same amount of follow on until I can get some stage 2?

Yes, just give him the same. If he wants more, I'm sure he will let you know Smile
Were you aware that follow on is sometimes on offer and you can get loyalty points and money off coupons in magazines etc for it, whereas stage 1 & 2 you don't?
Worth considering?

I have been wondering about this, DS is 7 months and still on 35-40oz a day. I am letting him cut down feeds in his own time, but wondered if he can move on to follow on milk and still have the same amount?

Sma bottles say only 20oz a day I think?

I think they're supposed to have at least 20oz a day - as in, they can have way more, but 20oz is the minimum they should be having.

I was going to move onto follow-on milk, but everyone says it's just a marketing ploy, and they should just stay on stage 1 or 2 till they're a year old. Didn't realise you could get points/offers on stage 3 milks!

Is stage 2 the hungrier baby milk then?

I would have thought best to just let him have the same.

But there was only Apatamil stage 2/hungry milk (not Cow and Gate). Apatmil makes him horribly constipated, to the point where he screams while pooing.

sorry I meant just have the same amount of follow on milk!

Ahh! Well, see that is what I thought, but there's no instructions on the side of the pack, just says that 'we reccomend 2 beakers a day for a baby who is being weaned, to help with iron etc'. Whereas on the stage 2, it has exact amount for a 7 month old.
