Mixed feeding, vitamin K?

I'm mixed feeding my week old pfb for a whole host of readings. I'm expressing and bottle feeding around half of feeds. Rest are aptamil ready made.

Just wondered whether I should be giving her the vitamin k drops?

I though all babies got vitamin K in some form (if you have chosen to have them) whether breast or bottle fed. Mine got it by injection shortly after birth.

Yes you should have been asked if you wanted the vitamin k injection which is administered straight after birth, if you opted for the drops the midwife will administer them. You can't buy them over the counter they're prescription only.

They've given me some drops as I was planning on exclusive breast feeding.

But midwife said if I formula fed I didn't need to bother as they are already in them.

I think I'll ask the breastfeedimg lady come Monday.

Babycentre website says this:

Doctors recommend that your baby has one of the following:

A single injection of vitamin K shortly after birth.

If your baby is breastfed you can opt for three doses of vitamin K by mouth. Two are given during his first week of life, and another dose when he is one month old.

If your baby is bottle-fed you can opt for two doses of vitamin K by mouth during his first week of life.

Two doses are advised in the first week for all babies. For exclusively breast fed babies, it is recommended that a third dose of 2mg Konakion MM be given at one month of age. On this regime it is essential that you make sure the third dose is given.

Vitamin K is already added to artificial or bottle milk so that babies fed on these milks get Vitamin K in the milk anyway. The second dose in the first week is advised for artificial or bottle milk fed babies as for breast fed babies, to be sure that they get the maximum benefit.
