Hi All,
i'm currently exclusively breastfeeding my 9 week old dd and have got the mother of all sore throats.
Does anyone know if it's ok for me to suck Strepsils extra?? And if so, how often can i have them?
I've lost the box so have nothing to refer too!

Sorry, I don't know, but personally I would use a huge tub of Ben & Jerry's . Found that very helpful when ill while pg.

I was taking the lemon and honey ones when I was preg. I was told by pharmicist that it was ok.

Don't take the ones that contain menthol.

Menthol can reduce breastmilk supply. See medication listed in kellymom.com. That is where I got the info.

There is defo. a Strepsil that has no menthol, I have bought them in the past few months. I think it is the sugar free ones. Ask your chemist.

Sorry, too lazy to do link, here is what kellymom.com says copied and pasted:

"Sore throat sprays or lozenges are generally considered safe, as are cough drops. Avoid eating excessive amounts of cough drops containing menthol. Large amounts of menthol can reduce milk supply.
Many forms of Robitussin, Delsym and Benylin are considered compatible with breastfeeding. Always check the active ingredients, as there are many versions".
