Fussing before latching

I spoke to the lactation specialist at the local baby cafe today about sore nipples to make sure I was doing things right
She suggested a slight change to my and ds position
He latched on straight away and all was good.
At home I've tried hard to ensure he us latching on correctly but he just fusses and gets worked up and doesn't seem to try to latch on!?

Is it normal for them to fuss and get worked up - is it because they're doing it a bit different?

Ds is 16 days now and I felt bf was going

I would try latching him on at the very first sign of him being awake - if you wait till they're obviously hungry then sometimes they get too worked up to do it calmly.

I think it's quite normal. Also agree try to latch baby on when calm, before fussing starts. I remember a lot of thrashing legs and arms at times. I just put up with it and we both got better at it eventually. Hopefully someone will come along with better advice for you!

I think 16 days is typical for fussiness/ colicky crying etc to begin... It is a phase and most likely nothing to do with how well you are doing. My mw said its something to do with their development, eyesight or something I can't remember what. We've had several phases, one was around 2-4 months lots of evening fussing (sorry if that sounds long, yours is bound to be different) then by 4 months bf was completely effortless and joyful... Then came teeth and biting which was a whole new challenge. I mostly just put up with the difficult times though so I'm not sure I have any advice as such. Just persevere, and get to a bf cafe or clinic if you can just to moan if nothing else

I hadn't noticed the bit where you said your nipples were sore, sounds like you could do with going back to the bf cafe as soon as you can just to try different techniques with the latch? Sore nipples are no fun

Hv came today and helped with positioning again so fingers crossed - they made me feel like I could ring though if I needed them to come back
He fed really well when they were here, I hope he manages again with lack of fussing
They said just to support my breast so nipple is pointing right way (not that they don't) so he gets it into his mouth correctly! Lets hope it works out for us!
