Title says it all really
4 week old dd, ebf- rocky start initially but things had been much better past 2 weeks, gaining weight well
Just had grim grim night with her though, opening mouth fine but then not latching on at all really, seems like she's forgotten how to
Finally managed to get her on briefly and painfully but she v distressed and obv hungry
Any suggestions?

Can you see any physical cause, for example white spots in mouth (thrush) or early teething? If not, perhaps it is just a nursing strike? If so it will pass - try lots of skin to skin and feeding in different positions if you can. If you are getting really worried and you have or can buy bottles and a breast pump you could give ebm in a bottle - some people might say it is too early to introduce a bottle, but others do it without problems - my dd had bottles of ebm days after birth, never went off the nipple but did stop taking bottles at three months!

Someone who knows more than me will be along soon. Meantime cuddle baby.skin to skin if you can. And don't panic!

How has today been Land, is she still the same?

LandUnderWave · 07/10/2012 20:09

Day still bit of a struggle
She just fed properly from left breast for first time really today
Right breast she just goes crazy at
Do wonder if might be thrush as I think am getting nipple thrush for second time although cant see anything in her mouth
Been doing lots of skin to skin
Expressed couple ozs earlier which she took no bother but don't want to get her too used to bottle
Hey ho
We persevere
Thanks for replies

That's good. Is your Hv any help? Perhaps you could ask for her to visit or contact gp? Is your dd still weeing plenty?

LandUnderWave · 07/10/2012 22:45

Hv sadly is spectacularly useless which is a shame
Yes dd still weeing fine, dirty nappies too which is reassuring
She has had couple hours sleep which is great as she was knackerd, so hoping for a better night
Cheers again
