MIxed Feeding

Ds is 10 weeks old and BF is going very well.
MIL, however, reckons I should move to mixed feeding now BF is established.
Does anyone know if there is any basis to this? She is a retired nurse so Im assuming it's based on something. Outdated advice though maybe?
FWIW I plan to continue breast feeding but just curious about where she might be coming from with this

Very outdated advice. Depends what you read, but formula companies armed with poorly executed 'research' pushing their wares on medical professionals to the point that it became accepted practice seems to be a likely culprit. I don't think the human race would have survived this long if formula was a biological imperative!

Now breastfeeding is established I would stick to breastfeeding! Unless your MIL is an infant feeding specialist and knows something particular about your situation.

Very odd advice.....why not ask her why she thinks this would be a good idea? How could the introduction of milk from another animal (formula is cows milk) be an improvement on a diet of milk from you??

Is she perchance pushing you to mixed feed so that she can have the baby to visit/stay with a bottle more easily?

I would just stick with BF if everything is going ok, why jepordise what you already have?

yes, this is probably part of it!
She also seems to have some odd concerns that BF might wear me out somehow! Very strange.. I will continue to take no notice.

To be fair, he suckles like a little Hoover whenever we are round hers so it probably looks a bit relentless. I think she keeps her house too warm and he gets thirsty

Ah, that does sound like maybe that's the reason - I think a lot of new grandparents want the grandchild to stay!

If she asks again just reply "it's working for us, you can't fix something that ain't broke!". Also, she may think it strange that you're still BF, after all she probably grew up (depending on when she was born!) thinking that FF is more 'normal' than BF, and can't understand why you'd do it. It can be a generational thing.
