11 week old EBF sleeping through the night - help

DC3 has suddenly started sleeping through from 9pm to 7am roughly for the last 2 nights, is this ok? what will it do to my supply? can I leave him that long without a feed? should I pump? aaargh, help! I thought I would be so happy he's sleeping but now I'm more worried.

Bless you. DD1 who was EBF and tiny slept through around this time. DD2 who was formula fed but small with slow weight gain also slept through at this stage. I would trust your baby and enjoy a good night's sleep!

My DS also started sleeping for 10 hour stretches around the same age. I made the mistake of mentioning this to the HV, who told me to wake DS twice in the night to feed (his weight gain had slowed a bit around the same time) and feed him at least every three hours in the day, regardless of whether he seemed interested. Anyway, I did as she said, because I didn't know any better and she got me incredibly stressed about the weight thing. DS was understandably pretty cross about the new 'regime', and I got more and more exhausted. Turned out fine in the end (still BF at 12 months Smile) but I really wish I'd trusted my instincts and listened to my baby.

Phew, feel better now. None of my other 2 slept through this early and still don't so this has thrown me a bit. Thanks, I'll enjoy it for now!

Why did I jinx it? Awake now feeding, just in case
the universe thought I was getting too smug.

Hey. My dd2 slept through at this stage. Some nights doing 13 hours. I was a little engorged the next morning. She'd only feed 4 or 5 times during the day.

She's 14 months now, still sleeps through, and has a morning and afternoon sleep, and she's a little chunk :)

papooshka · 15/09/2012 06:24

My dd was ebf and slept 7-7 from 12 weeks, enjoy your sleep!

shandybass · 15/09/2012 06:48

Yes I would agree, chill and go with it. My dd3 slept through at 9 weeks and still is at 14 weeks. She catches up in the day. She's not big but as long as she's still gaining weight and there's no dramatic drop in weight there's nothing to worry about. I appreciate that you will, all us mother's do about all sorts.
I think with mine she's entertained so much in the day by dd1 and dd2 and my running around that age doesn't sleep as much in the day and so makes up for it at night. They're very clever are our babes.
By the way are you managing with EBF? That sounds hard work with other dcs around.

dontlaugh · 15/09/2012 08:51

It's not too bad Shandy, they are in school/playschool so we just get on with it. Yes, he is very entertained by siblings so I'll just go with it. He slept from 8pm to 5am (when I posted) then went back til 7am so I feel blessed!

My EBF DD is 16 weeks and been sleeping 8-7 (most nights) with just a dream feed since 9 weeks. I've not had any drop in supply and she's gaining weight right on target for her centile.

Enjoy your sleep!

luckysocks · 16/09/2012 20:21

I was going to say stealth boast Wink but that happens to me too - I was just saying the other day how well DD was sleeping at night and the three nights since have been completely shit. It happens every time, you got off lightly I reckon with a just 5am wakeup Grin

I agree though, by 11 weeks, if you get a full nights sleep just enjoy it.

OscarPistoriusGirlfriend · 16/09/2012 20:25

Both my boys were EBF and DS1 slept through from 5 days and ds2 from 3 weeks. Enjoy your rest.

dontlaugh · 17/09/2012 22:10

Ok, I'm back and it is a bit of a sneaky stealth boast - he's slept through bar my 5am post every night. I am in utter utter shock, I'd heard about babies like this but always thought it was like winning the lottery, i.e. they happened other people Smile. I bloody deserve it! #1 and 2 completely destroyed us sleep wise and #2 is still not great. Yay, I won the baby lottery! At bloody last!

DD didn't sleep through until she was nearing 3 and still doesn't like to sleep much at 5yo.

DS is 12mo and slept through from a few weeks old.

I'd accept it as a reward for surviving years of no sleep. I am.

dontlaugh · 17/09/2012 22:20

Thanks everyone, I'm off to sleep now, oh the relief that sentence brings! Thanks
