EBM - can I reheat it?

I'll apologize in advance if this question has been asked countless times already. Had a quick google search and can't seem to find any info.

Expressed breastmilk been in fridge since Sat. Was out for few hours this afternoon without baby so took milk out of fridge, warmed it up (in jug of warm water) and put bottle in one of those insulated bottle carriers. Turns out baby slept the whole time she was out with husband (2/3hours) so bottle was not needed. I fed her when I got home.

I immediately put milk back in the fridge when I got home (transferred to a fresh breast milk storage bag) - about 3 hours after it was taken out of fridge. So my question is this; could I reheat this milk again? I need to go out again for a few hours on Sat morn so could I leave the same milk again or will it have to be ditched?

Thanks all

Hi, it will have to be ditched I'm afraid! The milk wouldn't last a week anyway, even if you hadn't reheated it, I think it only lasts up to 6 days; having said that I expressed some milk on a Monday and instructed my dh to use it in dd's breakfast on the Wednesday (I had a lie in!!) and when I got up dh said that dd had refused her porridge and he wasn't surprised as it tasted vile - it wasn't until I tried it that I realised my EBM was off and it had been in the back of the fridge so it should have been OK! So be careful when storing it!

No, has to be ditched, unfortunately. Combination of being warmed up (if only to room temp) and then kept at that temp for a few hours would have given greeblies perfect growing conditions.

Very useful leaflet from the BfN Expressing and Storing

It will have to go. Heartbreaking to pour it away, know that you will have plenty more though Smile

Nooooooooooo! Not what I wanted to hear but thanks for keeping me right.

RightUpMyRue "...you will have plenty more though". Hmm, I wish! Let's just say my cup doesn't exactly runneth over! Takes me bloody forever to express a sad amount. Oh well...more pumping for me in the morning!

Has to be ditched. Next time maybe just leave it in the fridge and DH can warm it if it's needed.

though it can last a week/8days if your fridge is good and it's not been taken out. Just give it the sniff test.
