i already have the isis which i used with my DS - it was ok but i didn't produce loads of milk when i expressed which may have been due to me not producing much because i was on oral steroids or because the pump wasn't effective enough.
was wondering if i should go electric? can anyone recommend manual and electric pumps please?
many thanks

I tries manual avent but couldn't get it to work then I tried an electric one from Boots (not their own make but the only other make they sell!)That was excellent and worked really well although it is a bit like being in a cow shed!! It is also a bit noisy and you have to turn the telly up to hear over it!!

I used the Medela electric and found it very effective (mothercare about £30 I think). It's quite noisy though (I often ended up with the duvet wrapped over it at 3am in the morning so as not to wake the house up). It can't be microwave sterilised (have to boil the bits or dishwasher). I tried a manual Avent pump and couldn't get anything worthwhile out.

Yes Medela thats the one!

I agree with Helsbels, you can not even hear the TV but they are effective. You can also rent a proper one (like the ones of the hospitals), I don't know how expensive it is but here's the address www.ameda.demon.co.uk/nursingmother.html

I had the manual Avent Isis and had no problems with it. Provided I could not hear or see my baby (rather odd, I know!)

I got on fab with the Isis but also produced lots of milk - I could express 12oz morning and evening. I had previously borrowed an electric one but it made me feel like a cow!

Medela electric is fabulous. Medela manual was horrible. IMO, definitely worth it to get the Medela electric. I pumped at work for nearly 5 months and had the Medela Pumpnstyle, which was really great.

thanks for the info - will toddle off to mothercare/boots and get the medela pump and then at least i can see how i get on with both.
i'm hoping that my lack of milk was due to the steroids an not my miniscule boobs!
