I have a few occasions that are coming up and need to leave behind enough bm for my nearly 10m dd. dd bf's around 3-5 times a day so how do I go about expressing enough without depriving her of bm in the meantime? I have around 15oz in the freezer which I expressed in the early days but I expressed last night, only got just under 4oz and when dd went to bf I got the impression that there wasn't much left for her!! I'm so confused how to go about it! Do I even need to leave any behind? Dd doesn't eat a huge amount and is very stubborn when it comes to spoonfeeding. I don't even know whether I'm making any sense!!

Depends totally on what time of day and how long you will be leaving her.

If during the day and she eating solids you could leave a snake instead of a bottle. But at bedtime you probably need to leave a bottle. Probably no more then 6-7 Oz and she may not drink all of that as breastfeeds trend to be lower in volume then formula as the milk is higher in fat.

If she's not that keen on sponge feeding then give her finger food, you should be moving over to her feeding

a snake! - dont leave that it'll scare the beejesus out of her
sponge feeding also sounds interesting!

does no one else have this problem with smart phones then. Problem is i'm dyslexic and can't always tell if it picks the wrong word.

I wasn't being mean, just though what you'd written was amusing. I quite often text gibberish to dh so its not just you!

I find my LO drinks a lot more from bottles so it might be worth over estimating. I also leave a small carton of formula as well when someone is babysitting as I'd rather have an emergency back up plan, than him go hungry. As for amounts, no clue! My 4 month milk monster can get through 5 oz (150ml) from a bottle! I've never expressed that much in a sitting - 3oz from both sides is normal!

Unfortunately I can't give her formula as she is allergic to cows milk. Prescription formula tastes vile so it's just bm.

Can anyone advise when's a good time to express?

I find first thing in the morning is good.
