7 mo using her (new) teeth!

DD is weaning but still breast feeding frequently and I was hoping to continue for some time. However her teeth have just come through and she's taken to biting towards the end of the feed, hard enough to draw blood! I don't want to stop bf but can't carry on like this, is it likely to be just a phase? Have tried pulling away but that really hurts too :(

It is just a phase - DD did this for a while (a week or so) when she first got teeth. I used to end the feed when she bit, didn't take her too long to catch on :)

It is a phase but you should deal with the biting each and every time it happens.

First of all, try to pre-empt when she bites ( they usually get a slight glint in their eye Grin) and take her off before she clamps down.

If you don't manage to catch the biting before it starts, then try not to react (I remember how hard it was not to scream and pull away...) and very firmly take her off the breast with a firm "No biting" and shut up shop.

She will soon learn that she won't get the hilarious reaction from Mum and the boobs get put away, and she will stop biting.

Good luck (I went on to bf my DD until she was 17 months and my DS til he was 3) Smile

Phew that's it's just a phase, and thanks for the positive advice! :)

Roller my DS did this at 7 months too, I phoned the NCT Breastfeeding Helpline and the BFC gave me some tips. It was sorted in a couple of days and I carried on happily feeding him with no problems Smile.
