Is this reflux or just colic?

Ds is 5 week old, and we put his screaming after feeding down to colic at first but having read some reflux info we're not so sure.

He's irratable while been fed
Arches his back in pain
Quite often sick after feeds
He has alot of wind (farts alot)
He makes a kinda gurgling/bubbling sound all the time
Sometimes sounds like he's gasping for breath
Sounds chesty/wheezy when he's relaxed
Screams after every feed for hours
On websites i've looked on some of these are symptons of reflux

But he sleeps at night after his feeds and he's putting on weight so really not sure what to think.

We've tried infacol without any success, now hv has said to try dentinox just to see if that helps. I'm gonna take him to docs tomorrow but wanted opinion on here too.

When he is sick, it is projectile??

A child with reflux is sick after evey feed, without medication.

My dd had the same. She put on weight and sleep resonably well but her bottles in the day were a nightmare - arching back, screaming, sick, often projectile. We put it down to colic but after going to doctors, a few times and then to the hospital was diagnosed with reflux. The problem is getting it diagnosed. Go to the doctors and see what they say but it could be reflux.

If you don't get any joy at the doctors, I found writing down all the symptoms as they happen helped in getting the right diagnosis. If you write it at the time you don't forget any of them.

You can also try heightening the cot/moses basket head, trying to feed as upright as possible and after feeding trying to keep ds as upright as possible, to let the milk settle.

Good luck - trust your instinct and try to give the doctor all the facts. Reflux is hard to diagnose so they need all the facts to decifer between reflux and colic.

Also remember it is normal for babies to be a little sick, possetting. But if it is projectile or huge amounts then this needs investigating.

I took ds to hospital, as gp was'nt helping. They were brilliant they watched him feeding and obseved him for 2 hours etc etc, he was diagnosed that evening with reflux

We tried that but she wasn't very sick when in hospital. I was certain it was reflux and kept pushing this and in the end they did an ultrasound to rule out a problem with her stomach opening and trialed gaviscon. Although she is still slightly sick, this is just normal amounts and she is no longer in pain.

Do you struggle to calm him when he is screaming after his feed. We found that the only thing that would calm dd was to hold her upright against our body with her head over her shoulder and walk around with her. Apparently this is one of the symptoms.

Babies can still gain weight with reflux.

Had ds to docs and he's prescribed infant gaviscon to see if it works for him. Thanks for all advice!
