Quick question about expressing and babysitting

DS is 16 weeks, and weighs 16 lb. He tends to be a hungry wee guy in the evenings, feeding at 7pm and 8pm (and again at 9pm).

We're going out for dinner tonight between 6.30 and 8, and I'm not sure how much milk to leave with my Mum. I've got about 210 ml fresh and loads in the freezer in varying amounts. In the morning if I express I get 100 ml or thereabouts per boob. How much should I defrost?

If you are going out for two and a half hours then aiming to leave an ounce per hour (plus one for luck in each bottle/cup) is prob your best bet.

So if I was the one going out I'd leave 2 3oz bottles but not expect them to be fully drunk as that's roughly 6 hours worth of milk!

210mls is over 7oz so plenty with out needing to express again/defrost extra milk (avg daily intake in mls is 750mls on a range of 570-900mls - details here).

This might be good reading for your mum - here so she can mimic bfing as closely as possible and not let baby over eat.

Well how much does he usually have if you bottle-feed him in the evening? (Hope you've got him used to bottles before leaving him with your Mum!)

Thanks Truthsweet. I'll take what Ive got plus a bag of frozen just in case.

Zuleika - if I usually gave him a bottle in the evening then I wouldn't have had to ask! He's fine with bottles, but I'm usually with him at that particular time of day.

Then Truth is right and two 3oz bottles should be ample.
