toddler squeezing breast when feeding

hello, just general curiosity and wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and if you did anything about it. 17mo dd really grips and squeezes my boob so hard when she is feeding. it really is like milking a cow or something. Although not the worst thing in the world and I am v happy bfn , it is quite uncomfortable and even painful at times. Its amazing how strong such a small person can be!

My Dd did this from quite an early age so you have my sympathy. Can't do links at the moment but have a look on kellymom at breast feeding manners.

You can try and teach them not to do it. But interestingly they learn from an early age that compressing the breast helps get more milk. kind of a bit like them doing breast compressions them selfs.

Interestingly I realised this when a friend had an incident of her older boy squashing her breast while feeding her baby. He said he was helping baby get the milk out, he was still feeding at that point to.

Although if it hurts I'd encourage them to be more gentile.

Yep, she is increasing the flow. If it's painful, try and stop her from doing it. Ds3 was a little so and so for doing it.

thank u for the link. I forgot about kellymom, what a great site and an interesting read! I may try and get her to not squeeze so hard but she does this most at her bedtime feed so don't reckon ill be too successful!
They're so clever arn't they! Its quite endearing in a way that she loves mummy's milk so much :)
