Nursing toddler to get general tomorrow - no milk for 4 hrs beforehand - how??

I have an, ahem, enthusiastic nurser, particularly in the mornings and also when she is somewhere she doesn't like, for example, a hospital.

ANyone got any ideas about how to keep her away from nursing for the 4 hrs prior to her GA tomorow?! She goes days without if I am away with work, but when I am present, it's her favourite habit!

We had a similar situation last year. Lots of distraction is the only solution really. Good luck

No advice I'm afraid but my LO had a general last year and we just took books and lap top with a film and a sticker book- but he was older- just turned 3. Just wanted to wish u luck as I know it's quite stressful for the parents. And will be a great comfort when she wakes up groggy and perhaps disorientated so take heart in that :)

Breastmilk counts as a clear substance, so you can feed. I'm trying to find the article about it, but you do not have to withhold for four hours, I believe its only the hour before, same rule as water.

I can't find the poxy article now, of course. Distraction methods;

  • Take toys that you haven't had out for a while
  • Take someone else with you if you can to take her mind off availablity!
  • Polo neck..?!

Hope your little one is okay. x

Thanks guys.

Yeah, it went well and she really understood what I meant when I said she had to wait until after her special sleep before she could nurse. And, despite a numb mouth, managed to nurse well straight after!

We're all knackered but it went great!
