If bf when did your periods return?

DD is 15 months old and bfs along with solids. Consumption varies, some days she is more into solids and will bf less, other days she is still quite attached to the boob, however even on low consumtion days she will bf 6 times through the day and night.

We would like to TTC for another child, but my periods have not returned. I am assuming this is because of the bf but I don't want to stop quite yet. On the other hand I am 39 so we don't have all the time in the world.

Am I right to assume it's the bf that's delaying my periods? Should I just chill and wait to see what happens or is 15 months with no periods peculiar?

Tgger I suspect my periods would return faster if I stopped bf, but somehow I don't want to stop. I can't quite explain it rationally, but it just doesn't feel like the right time to stop for us. I have tried really hard to wean her off night feeds but she seems to have her own rhythm. On 'good' nights she will manage 11pm to 5am without feeds but on bad nights I can either give her the boob or she will scream (on good nights she will also settle with DP with cuddles, rocking, body contact, patting, etc., on bad ones it's the boob or nothing). She is a proper boob monster and lately she has learnt to point at it and say 'titi' which is kind of irresistible.

22.5 months post partum for me. DS was still feeding 7-8 times a day and 1-3 times at night.

The recorded range is 4 weeks to 42 months, IIRC.

Pootle78 · 27/08/2012 15:41

Ds2 is 4 weeks and 1 day today. He is attached to me ALL the time and I think I have just started [very pissed off face]

Bizarre it was exactly the same (4 weeks, 1day) with ds1 but I was combi feeding (expressing as he couldn't latch) him so although p'd off couldn't complain as wasn't pumping that often!

Oh the joys!!!!

mrswoz · 27/08/2012 18:01

mine came back at about 17 weeks, but we were still totally exclusively breastfeeding, at least every 3 hours possibly more often! no solids, no bottles, nothing!

am surprised to read so many responses saying they didn't come back for months and months, now I know why so many people seem happy to rely on it as a form of contraception!

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 27/08/2012 18:07

Like MrsWoz, mine came back after about four months, even tho' I was also BF exclusively, and DS1 was a voracious feeder!

4 months while mix feeding - 3/4 bf and 1/4 bottle

coldcomfortHeart · 27/08/2012 21:25

Devonsmummy and AngelDog yours are the longest gaps I've heard of- with DS1 mine returned at 15m -coincided with not feeding during the day any more. DS2 is 14m and periods not back yet. Fingers crossed for 27 months! (Although if it means still night feeds all flipping night long I'm not so sure)

dontlaugh · 27/08/2012 21:56

3 weeks after lochia stopped, still ebf. Not impressed.
