Extreme breastfeeding

Just reading through the swimming pool thread, and thinking 'meh, I've fed in loads of places that others would think are more shocking than that', for example in various churches, in meetings, in front of press...

Where were your more 'daring' BF locations, and are there any that are just too extreme? (Babies shouldn't really ride on rollercoasters, so I can't think of any)

I think the whole concept of there being somewhere you shouldn't bf is basically weird, it's a normal thing to do, it's not rude.

It makes me laugh to think what I was like when I had my first baby - we went out for a meal with friends and I left the table and went and sat in a draughty hallway to feed dd. When visiting a relative I also went into a different room. Who knows why? Two children later (expecting fourth in a couple of weeks) and I have to remind myself to actually think before I feed because it has become so automatic (if that makes sense!!). I don't bat an eyelid and don't bother with cloths/scarves etc... usually discreet, but don't really care anymore! Standing at a roadside watching dh in a half marathon was my most 'extreme', not in the sense of 'daring' location, but because I wasn't sitting down, and don't usually contemplate feeding unless I'm sitting comfortably somewhere! Feeding a 2 year old while heavily pregnant anywhere other than my own bedroom is pretty extreme for me these days!!!

Oh, and we should all bow down and worship at the altar of the Breastfeeding Mama while we are about it.

Rubysmommy · 23/08/2012 15:03

I Bf while walking around Ikea once Smile

Methe · 23/08/2012 15:04

walking round the wedding show at the NEC.

confuddledDOTcom · 23/08/2012 15:09

Someone posted a picture on Facebook about how you can't support breastfeeding with a but (I can't remember the quote, it's better than that lol) and I answered "I support breastfeeding but it's dangerous at the wheel of a car"

To be honest I've just fed my babies where ever we may be and not really thought about it so whilst I know I have fed them in maybe unusual places I can't think of many. All the time in church, in board meetings, does on the radio count?

cheddarcheeselover · 23/08/2012 15:10

best one I did was bfing while painting a stage set, on stage in a break from a technical rehearsal, so I had theatre lighting and everything!

bonbonpixie · 23/08/2012 15:52

Just this afternoon bf whilst waiting for our table at lunch. Started in the bar area (DD just wouldn't wait) then continued in the lift down and then to our table. Thank goodness for those apron cover things!

Also bf in a cable car a few weeks ago...

DD1 goes to an outdoor toddler group in a wood.
DD2 was eight weeks prem. I breastfed her walking around the wood helping DD1 to collect bugs when DD2 was six weeks old and five pounds.

With DD1 I thought I needed sofa, cushions etc to feed. Now with DD2 I just don't have a choice.

I agree that we should all be welcome to feed wherever and whenever but I do sometimes take myself off to feed, eg at a family meal recently I nipped out rather than feed in front of my uncles who I think would have been uncomfortable. But maybe that's just me letting my/societies prejudices affect me.

KD0706 · 23/08/2012 18:00

Oh and I feed all the time in church. It's never occurred to me that that's an 'extreme' place to feed

SaraBellumHertz · 23/08/2012 18:04

I BF DC4 on a running track midway through a 5km run.

She was strapped very tightly to me in a moby wrap for the run so quite comfy and got hungry so she was on the boob whilst I jogged.

My 6 year old referred to her having a milkshake Grin

SaraBellumHertz · 23/08/2012 18:04

Just to clarify BF baby was a couple of mths.

7 year old thought it was the most hilarious thing ever

KatAndKit · 23/08/2012 19:05

What is wrong with bf in church? I assume Jesus himself was breastfed.

cheddarcheeselover · 23/08/2012 22:16

churches are full of images of baby jesus being bf aren't they?

I've bf mine many times in church, never thought twice about it!

AnOddQuestion · 23/08/2012 22:25

I bf walking around Next and Ikea, couldn't quite bring myself to feed her today in the middle of the supermarket despite her loudly protesting, and sticking her hand down my top from the trolley seat! (she's a year old) I think that was more because she's older so I don't like to feed her in public so much - get stared at :(

Gilberte · 23/08/2012 22:31

I've fed in trains plains and automobiles inc a car going along on the motorway at 70 mph leaning over the carseat.

It's not the place that seems to shock most people these days it's the age

DS now 2.8yrs, we don't tend to feed in public much anymore but have got a fair selection of weird and wonderful places to commit to memory. In the middle of the Sealife center shark tunnel with giant fishes swimming over my head was one to remember!

KD0706 · 23/08/2012 22:48

AnOddQuestion I'm sure I read something on here about somebody feeding an older baby while the baby was sat in the supermarket trolley - it was the right level so mum just got her boob out.

On the topic of male relatives, my nephew who is 12 has in the past come over to stroke baby's head and been mortified to realise I was feeding. Poor soul.

confuddledDOTcom · 23/08/2012 23:02

My nephew, who was 12 at the time came over to see what I was saying "Oh don't do that!" about (opening her eyes to only show the whites) quite aware I was feeding her. I was quite chuffed lol

lindsell · 23/08/2012 23:02

While at the dentist having a filling - was a bit surreal bfing while having your tooth drilled Grin but kept ds2 happy, quiet and still so the dentist could get on with it - thankfully he (the dentist) wasn't at all phased by it

Tempernillo · 23/08/2012 23:03

In front of my grandad! Grin

thunksheadontable · 23/08/2012 23:09

I'm attending cbt for pnd and bfing through my sessions with the kindly male therapist in his 50's.

DuelingFanjo · 23/08/2012 23:12
