Still not pooing

My DS is 3weeks old now and EBF. My worry is he now hasn't pooed in a week. He is otherwise well and happy. He's gaining weight and growing (now out of new born stuff). He's having loads of wet nappies (6-10 a day and weeing whenever I change him) just no dirty ones in ages. He is passing wind though. His last couple of dirty nappies were yellow/brown.
HV and GP keep looking vaguely concerned and saying that they'd rather he was having more dirty nappies but that breast fed babies can go a long time without. They just keep saying we'll wait and see. Do I need to worry?

dont worry. my dd was about this age and ebf. Dr said anything up to 10 days is quite normal. keep feeding, warm naths and tummy massage will help, use 2 fingers in circular movements under the belly button. gently pushing knees up to his tummy and bouncing them there then straighten and repeat, can also help. be prepared for an explosion very soon :)

Really don't worry. My dd's bowels used to be all over the place, but she is now 19 months and she is regular as clockwork- daily, just AFTER I change her first nappy of the day (no matter how late it is)! Rest assured today or tomorrow he will do a massive turd and you will wonder why you ever wished it upon yourself! As long as he is happy and is in no discomfort I am sure his body is just doing what it's supposed to do! Smile

My DS was 6 wks and went 10 days without a poo, then I took him to a baby massage class and they were doing clockwise massage around the belly button and then down towards the groin gently, and....you can guess the rest. Total poo explosion, baby wipes just couldn't cut it.

So try that, with a little oil!

Thanks for the reassurance/advice. We'll try the above and make sure we're equipped for the mess!

Until I introduced a bottle (last week) DD2 only pooed once a week from birth.

On a Thursday afternoon in fact Confused

My 5 month old DD is now on day 16 or 17 (we can't agree on the last time she pooed) so Napdamnyou you could be in for some competition Grin

Faverolles · 20/08/2012 18:44

Napdamnyou, I remember that thread well :o

4 dirty nappies in a couple of hours. This first one clearly came as a terrible shock. the look on his face was priceless. I think he feels much better for it. Thanks for all your advice and reassurance.

I was wondering how you were getting on Grin

At least they were spread out over 4 nappies...!!

podie · 22/08/2012 21:16

Don't worry my son did the same, we were waiting 10 days or more for a poo, midwife said it was perfectly normal but be ready with the oxygen mask when it arrives, it stank! He'd kill me if he knew I was writing this he's a perfectly healthy 12 year old now!

Whosbrightidea · 04/09/2012 09:54

He's doing it again! We're now on day 15. Is there anything I can eat to make him poo? This can't be comfortable for him.

Well done him for spreading it out over a couple of hours for you! DDs record was 12 days and she did it in one HUGE poo.
