Hi,

I am breastfeeding my 3 week old second baby, the first was breastfed for 18 months no problems but this time around it is getting incredibly painful, more so on one side than the other.

It is incredibly sore when baby initially latches on, first of all this pain would last for 30 seconds or so then go, and as this happened last time when first breastfeeding before my nipples 'toughened up' I wasn't concerned, however the pain has persisted and now lasts throughout the feed. It's a sharp stinging pain in my nipple, sometimes with shooting pains to my back. No blanching of the nipple and it's not deformed when baby finishes feeding.

I'm pretty sure baby's latch is good, weight gain is excellent and I'm doing my best to make sure they get a good mouthful of areole and nipple. Baby does have a sucking blister in the corner of its mouth as well as the on in the centre of the top lip that I know is normal - don't know of that indicates anything.

If anyone could give me any ideas what I could do about this I'd be really grateful!

Don't know sorry Frustrated. Is there a BFC near to you that you could call?

Keep taking the painkillers and hopefully someone with more experience will be along shortly Smile.

You need to talk to someone in rl, is there a support group near by you could go to? Or talk to your gp/hv.
