Will this be destroying all the good stuff gained from breastfeeding?

Poor mite has tonsillitis and now diarrhoea from the medication.

Poor little baby :( breast milk will be the best thing but the ABs could play havoc with his/her little body. Watch out for thrush and it's possible it could induce a temporary lactose intolerance due to the imbalance :( keep feeding him your milk though it will help him get through this and it wint undo everything x hope your baby feels better soon !!!!

Oh and I'm sure you already know this but just in case- you can also wipe his eyes with breast milk if they start getting all gunky. My dd was on ABs fir six months and her eyes were very gunky. Sending healing thoughts to your dc!!

Hi. Just to let you know my ds was in hospital on iv anti biotics when he was 3 weeks old. We bf all through it with.no problems at all. X

friedrice · 10/08/2012 14:47

Mine too, she had IV antibitotics for 3 weeks when very young. We never got thrush thankfully, but she had dreadful nappy rash so I washed her with water (no wipes, no cotton wool, just water and my fingers) when I changed nappy. She has been just fine since, very healthy. Hope your little one gets well soon.

Thanks people. Anything I can do to avoid thrush?

I'm not sure there is to be honest (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I think.the anti bios deplete good bacteria in the baby - something like that.

My ds never got it but I.did later on when I had to have anti bios for mastitis. Gp gave me cream and a pill called flucanzole (sp?!)

Hope your wee one has no problems with it. X

My DD had antibiotics for an ear infection at 7 months (so we had started weaning). Did not get thrush.

Please do not think that you are doing a bad thing by giving her antibiotics. She needs them to get better.
